This release is all about improved support for sentences.
- History now shows sentences in a more appropriate format - with the hanzi and phonetic on separate lines. Sentences are indicated using a vertical line in the left margin.
The Mandarin app (Hanping Chinese Dictionary) now comes with auto-generated translations of sentences:
- When typing an English sentence into the search box (at least 4 words), instead of showing “no english matches”, you see the auto-generated Chinese translation (using on-device Google Translate) together with pinyin and sentence decomposition.

Note: Hanping also translates the generated Chinese text back to English and this helps to confirm the accuracy of the translation.
- When typing a Chinese sentence into the search box (at least 4 characters), instead of showing “unknown meaning”, you see the auto-generated English translation (using on-device Google Translate) together with sentence decomposition.

When viewing the sentence in the details screen, use the “tick” button to convert the translation to a note:

Note - these translations are not reliable if the input sentence is not grammatically correct. So if you enter random Chinese characters and then get some grammatically-correct English translation, you can’t assume that the Chinese is a good translation of that English.
General Note - Unfortunately auto-generated translations are NOT available in Cantonese (due to limited on-device translation support for Cantonese).
